Some weddings feel different before you've even picked up your camera.
Kelly isn't just another bride to me, she's someone I went to school with, so when she asked me to photograph her wedding at Woodlands at Hothorpe Hall, I was absolutely honoured; and if I'm honest, a little more nervous than usual.
People often assume photographing a friend's wedding is easier, but it's actually the complete opposite. I put even more pressure on myself because I want every image to be perfect. These aren't just photographs for a client; they're memories for someone I've known for years!
Thankfully, within a few minutes of arriving at the house, every single one of those nerves disappeared.
The morning was exactly how every wedding morning should be: relaxed, full of laughter and completely stress-free.

A Relaxed Morning at the Lockdown Lodge
The day actually began away from the venue, at Kelly's mum and dad's home.
Now, this wasn't your average bridal prep location. What a house!! It instantly was calm and welcoming.

Beautiful decor, lots of dogs running around (including her beautiful boy, Colin). And during lockdown, Kelly's dad built a beautiful garden cabin for the family, and it became the perfect place for a few extra photos to get ready on the wedding morning. It had gorgeous natural light pouring through the windows.
What made the morning even more special was how relaxed everyone was. Even with 4 dogs running around the place!

There was no rushing around or unnecessary stress. Kelly was completely calm (potentially one of my most chill brides so far?!), her bridesmaids kept everyone laughing, and while hair and makeup were underway; her dad was outside cooking fresh bacon baps for everyone.

Honestly... can every wedding morning be like this?
As a photographer, these slower mornings are my favourite. They allow me to capture all the little moments that often become some of the most treasured photographs later on.

An Outdoor Ceremony at Woodlands at Hothorpe Hall
There are certain venues that I always get excited to photograph, and Woodlands at Hothorpe Hall is definitely one of them.
From the peaceful woodland surroundings to the incredible outdoor ceremony space and beautiful natural light, it's a venue that photographs beautifully in every season. So when Kelly & Joe booked me to capture their wedding there, I knew it was going to be a special day.
After arriving at Woodlands at Hothorpe Hall, the sunshine made an appearance and the outdoor ceremony couldn't have been more perfect.

One of the reasons I love photographing weddings here is because everything flows so naturally. Couples never feel like they're being pulled away from their guests for hours, and there's always another beautiful backdrop just around the corner.
Kelly & Joe were completely present throughout the day. You could see how much they enjoyed every single moment together, from the ceremony right through to the evening celebrations.

My Favourite Part of the Day
As much as I loved the ceremony and portraits, I think my favourite part was actually the atmosphere throughout the drinks reception.
The live band completely transformed the afternoon.

Guests were chatting, laughing, dancing with a drink in hand and soaking up the sunshine. It created such a relaxed, festival-like feel that carried on well into the evening.
Those are the moments I love documenting most, not just the big milestones, but everything in between that truly tells the story of the day!

Advice for Future Couples
If there's one thing Kelly & Joe absolutely got right, it was choosing the people around them!
Their bridesmaids and groomsmen brought so much energy, laughter and support to the day. They kept everyone relaxed, made the couple laugh constantly, and created so many genuine moments that translated beautifully into photographs. From getting ready to speeches!
